Amanda Seales acquired a reputation for being aggressive and difficult, but on a recent episode of former football tight end Shannon Sharpe’s podcast “Club Shay Shay,” the actress set the record straight. The three-hour and 10-minute interview allowed the “Smart, Funny & Black” creator to open up regarding her time on “Insecure,” her recent autism diagnosis, and how she deals with the labels the industry assigned to her.
*Editor’s note- Despite Seales saying “I was just recently diagnosed (with Autism Spectrum Disorder),” a clip from an Instagram Live has resurfaced where the actress says she has not been clinically diagnosed with autism by a doctor. It is unclear if the live occurred before her diagnosis or if she self-diagnosed.
Seales contributed over 30 years to the entertainment industry. In 1993, she made her first movie appearance with a small role in “Cop and a Half.” The following year, she joined the cast of the Nickelodeon sitcom, “My Brother and Me.” She eventually landed a gig as the VJ of MTV2’s “Sucker Free Countdown.” But her most notable role came in 2016 when she joined season one of “Insecure” as Tiffany DuBois, the bougie homegirl to Issa Dee’s (played by Issa Rae) unique friend group, which included Molly Carter, played by Yvonne Orji, and Kelli, played by Natasha Rothwell.
For five seasons, fans watched the dynamic group of ladies from “Insecure” navigate the ups and downs of careers, relationships, and friendships. As we witnessed the crumbling of the Issa and Molly empire play out onscreen, things seemed just as tumultuous behind the scenes. Rumors began to circulate, labeling Seales as problematic, defiant, and challenging to work with—but we’ll come back to this later.
Seales embodies the passion of our greatest ancestors. But her strong voice, backed by her Master’s degree in African American studies with a concentration in Hip-Hop from Columbia University, villainized her as a militant, angry Black woman. When she used her platform to advocate for Black people and our rights or simply shared her opinion on various topics, people found her delivery hard to digest because it was curt, direct, and wrapped in passion—often mischaracterized as aggression.
Rumors of Seales being difficult to work with started before “Insecure.” In 2007, her short stint in the classic R&B group Floetry dissolved before she could thrive as Natalie Stewart’s replacement. Fans weren’t informed about the switch-up, so when Seales popped up on tour with Marsha Ambrosius, she was met with a disgruntled welcome. In an interview with “The Breakfast Club,” she explains that she felt unsupported as fans protested her position as the new member. She finished the tour but ultimately left the group because it wasn’t a good fit.
In 2019 Seales appeared as a guest host of the daytime talk show “The Real.” This felt like a great fit for the actress because it provided her the space to voice her opinions and dissect current events in pop culture. Seales became a permanent co-host in 2020, but six months later she left the show because she felt stifled.

“It doesn’t feel good to my soul to be at a place where I can not speak to my people the way they need to be spoken to,” she said in an Instagram Live video. “And where the people that are speaking to me in despairing ways are not being handled.”
She continued, “I’m not at a space where, as a full black woman, I can have my voice and my co-workers also have their voices, and where the people at the top are not respecting the necessity for black voices to be at the top, too.”
The world has become comfortable with silencing Black voices, specifically ones who aren’t fearful of repercussions. Seales’ revolutionary spirit makes people uncomfortable, and her innate instinct to stand up for what she believes in, even if she is standing alone, is how she’s earned the title of being challenging. In her “Club Shay Shay” interview, we see a different side of the “Insecure” actress, who is notoriously misunderstood due to her passion, delivery, and authenticity.
I learned so much about the author, actress, media personality, podcaster, poet, advocate and comedian, particularly her patience, exemplified during the moments when Sharpe could not fully understand Seales’ perspective or empathize with her experience. Even in the seemingly safe space provided for her to clear the air, the actress handled miscommunications with grace and patience. She proves that no matter your tone, people may have already committed to misunderstanding you.

For many, red is the color of love, which might be why Draya Michele chose the bold hue for her recent shower to welcome her baby girl. According to video and pictures released by The Shade Room, the gorgeous mommy-to-be and her beau, Jalen Green, held an adorable red-filled soiree on April 21 to honor their pending baby’s arrival.
“OK now, party because I can’t, so you guys do it for me,” the glowing mother joked in the shared content.
In the social media video, Draya stood beside Jalen in an outdoor setting. The two have the mic at the DJ booth, surrounded by greenery and red decorations, including a deep red tablecloth with red flowers, desserts, and food.

As Jalen thanked the crowd for attending, friends and family cheered on the new parents.
Draya, who is entering her final month of pregnancy, oozes “sexy mama” in a cherry red two-piece with rosette details, drapery, and a wine-colored duster. Her hair was swept up in a romantic updo style, framing her face. Draya’s dark tresses were slicked back on one side with a curled bang cascading down the other. Jalen matches Draya’s fly in a red and white striped collared tunic and wide-leg pant set.

Draya’s baby girl will be her third child. She has two sons from previous relationships, Kniko Howard and Jru Scandrick.
Throughout her pregnancy, the “Basketball Wives” star has celebrated significant moments. The bombshell beauty has also shared vulnerable experiences with fans regarding body changes and feelings.
On April 8, she wrote, “I am in such a renewing space right now. Doing all the things I can to stay healthy and positive during my pregnancy and listening to my elders and their superstitions because the way evil is projected in this world right now against pregnant women, I can’t take any chances.

The 39-year-old has also unapologetically been ‘bumping around town’ in looks we love. She joins a long list of expecting mothers redefining maternity fashion and finding beautiful ways to display their growing bumps.

Ashanti and her adorable baby bump have stolen the hearts of many. This past weekend, “they” made their first official stage performance appearance together in Mississippi.
Dare we call it a mainstage “mommy and me” moment?
On Saturday, April 20, Ashanti was in concert at Studio A at the IP Casino Resort and Spa in Biloxi, Mississippi. Social media captures show the crowd going wild as soon as Ashanti and her exposed baby bump hit the stage.
As expected, the mommy-to-be is gorgeous and glowing. Ditching previously seen stage fits like oversized t-shirts and sweat jackets, Ashanti let her every curve and part of her growing baby bump show.
Last night’s performance was her moment, and the crowd could not get enough.
While singing old-school hits like “Baby” and “Body on Me,” the 43-year-old wore a one-piece black body suit that screamed “grown woman.” She accessorized the garment with a cropped studded and sequin leather bomber and black knee-high boots. (Ashanti reportedly took off her footwear during the set while hitting dance moves).
The newly engaged fiance’s hair and makeup were also on point during the performance. Ashanti rocked a high ponytail with swooped baby hairs and shiny glam makeup.

Since her official baby and engagement announcement with Nelly went live on Thursday, April 17, the internet lit up with congratulations, well wishes, and love.

Spin-the-Block. Hip-Hop Royalty. Couples Goals. These are all words and phrases we’ve used to describe the infectious rekindling romance of Nelly and Ashanti.
Since they burst back on the scene together last fall with pictures, videos, and shared performances, we’ve been more than invested. We love to see it, and even the most cynical of love seems to be rooting for them.

What we now know as Nelly and Ashanti began at a press conference during the 2003 Grammy Awards. Sparks flew at the event, and rumors spread immediately following. But the two remained quiet about their official dating status.
Ashanti joked on a VH1 Behind the Music special, “The first time I met Nelly, he asked me for my autograph, but I think he was being sarcastic, and I remember writing it down on the program.”

Despite public appearances and music collaborations, such as the song “Switch” in 2007, Nelly and Ashanti mainly remained quiet about their relationship. Various news outlets have also reported that Ashanti downplayed their relationship, saying they had “gone out” and dated but weren’t officially an item. By 2008, Ashanti had spoken more publicly about her relationship with Nelly. The “Baby” singer alluded to a more serious relationship but refused questions about an engagement and denied a confirmation.
In 2009, Nelly released the “Body On Me” music video featuring Ashanti. The chemistry between the two hip-hop artists was undeniable.
By 2012, rumors of a pending breakup were widespread. Some point to a 2010 Rap-Up TV interview with Nelly as a turning point.
During the conversation, Nelly said that he and Ashanti were just friends and that he was not ready to get married. The “Country Grammar” artist continued in the interview, saying he was “married to his work.”

After years of dating and appearances, news broke in 2013 that Nelly and Ashanti had officially called it quits. Ashanti later opened up about feeling betrayed but also said several times that they “were cool” and still friends.

To Simone’s surprise, the internet went into a frenzy after snippets of her husband on The Pivot podcast went viral in late December 2023. “I thought everything was OK, and then I go on Twitter and everybody’s like, ‘Divorce this man. He’s mean!’” Simone told the “Call Her Daddy” host this week. “I’m like, ‘He’s the sweetest. He praises the ground that I walk on.’ Truly, I’ve never met a man like him … he truly goes out of his way to do anything for me.”

Simone also defended her husband, saying his words were misunderstood. She explained that while Jonathan called himself a catch he never said that she was also not one.
At the time of her husband’s interview, the young bride was in the room, listening to the recording live. Simone says she loves to support Jonathan and was happy for him to have his moment to shine.

But while she cheered him on and felt secure in her marriage, she’s human. “I thought it was hilarious at first, and then it hurt my feelings,” the sports icon said. Then Simone’s feelings turned.
She continued, “One night, I broke down, and I’m like, ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don’t know him’… That really hurt. For me, it’s like, talk about me all you want, but don’t come for my family, never.”
In addition to getting candid about her feelings after social media reaction to her husband’s comments, Simone also opened up about other struggles. The decorated gymnast discussed the challenges she faces within the sports industry and how she manages being in the public eye. Simone remains an advocate for mental health, wellness, and self-care.
Simone’s podcast interview comes amid big changes for her and her hubby. Jonathan – formerly with the Green Bay Packers – is now signed to the Chicago Bears. And Simone remains one of the most talked-about gymnasts in the world. Her fans hope to see her take the global stage at the Paris Olympics in less than 100 days.

Rihanna has the fashion girlies in a state of confusion – in a good way. As we enter the warmer months of the year, the Savage Fenty mogul has been seen slaying the streets of Los Angeles in a cold-season staple: Fur.
Attending Coachella’s first weekend, she accessorized two looks with over-the-top fur coats. Just a few days earlier, the “Umbrella” singer went to dinner wearing a cheetah-print mini dress and Louis Vuitton fur purse, leading many fashionistas to compare her fit to the mob wife aesthetic.

While Rihanna is known to be a fearless fashion icon who sets trends and plays by her own rules, her latest fur-tastic fits have us asking ourselves, “Is fur this season’s hottest trend?” To answer the question, let’s break down her recent Coachella fits.
With three days of Coachella behind us, social media has been abuzz with festival commentary and celebrity-style reviews. Celebrities rocked it, from the performers on stage to the attendees at the parties. And, yes, they have looked fabulous all weekend long.
Stars like Karrueche Tran, Halle Bailey, and Ryan Destiny chose a minimalist aesthetic, while Rihanna slayed in the exact opposite. Pushing the boundaries of spring festival fashion, she adorned two maximalist looks with furs.
The mother of two’s first ensemble included a charcoal grey screened tee, a black leather mini skirt, oversized slouchy leather boots, and layers of silver chains. A larger-than-life cream fur added extra fabulousness to her festival attire.
It’s important to note that Rihanna’s forever bae, A$ AP Rocky, also rocked fur. He carried a white fur multicolored Louis Vuitton monogram tote.
Rihanna also wore fur to support A$ AP’s stage moment on Day 3. She opted for a pea-green screen tee, boxers, and a tied jacket around her waist. A fur coat and cream boots pulled the layered look together.
Both looks scream “rockstar” and ooze main character energy. Who wouldn’t want to bring these vibes into spring?
While many would argue that Coachella is a fashion-free-for-all where anything goes, the repeated occurrences of the fuzzy fabric have us talking. Rihanna’s style proves anything goes when it comes to fashion.

Angel Reese hit the court this weekend—but not the way many have seen her do it over the past few months (or most of her college career). The Bayou Barbie was spotted on April 12 sitting courtside at the New York Knicks-Brooklyn Nets game.

Social media also started buzzing after pictures and videos of her courtside went viral. Some commenters even tried to guess what Angel was saying while at the game.

Naomi Osaka took a break from tennis at what some called the height of her career. The tennis champion seemed fed up with everything: the pressures of her profession, the inner questions she had about purpose and life, and the overall strain on her body and psyche.
As The New Yorker reported, Naomi eventually said about her decision to retire briefly, “I just woke up . . . before one of my matches, and I was just thinking, like, What is the point of my life?”
This all happened about six years ago. And while Naomi has since had a daughter in July 2023 and returned to tennis with the 2024 Australian Open in January, she still sees and advocates for the importance of mental health and self-care. In other words, “What is the point of my life?” is still a question worth answering – for all of us.
The 26-year-old and her media company, Hana Kuma, attempt to help some find answers in a new podcast video series, “Can’t Wait To Hear From You.” According to a press release, the series “delves deep into the psyche of high-performing individuals, exploring their daily connection with their inner voice, pivotal moments that shaped their self-expression, and the effective mental care strategies they employ to nurture their identity.”
The podcast officially launched in late March in partnership with Modern Health. The kick-off episode featured Bozoma Saint John (former Netflix Chief Marketing Officer) and host Luvvie Ajayi Jones. Luvvie and social media influencer Franny Arrieta will alternate as episode hosts. Naomi has also participated in previous podcast versions to share her story.

“It’s such an impactful series where we openly talk about mental health. Since speaking out about my own experiences, I’ve felt so much empowerment in my vulnerability, and I’ve received so much love and support from my close circle, my fans, and Modern Health,” Naomi said to press about the new venture.
“I want others to feel the same and I hope this video podcast series will encourage them to have open discussions and feel less shame.”

Tamar Braxton is addressing rumors and speaking up for her friend and background singer, James Wright Chanel, who was allegedly assaulted by Chrisean Rock last week. In a November 13 Instagram video captioned “Justice for James,” Tamar confirms that Chrisean assaulted her friend, aims to “clear up some things” regarding the altercation, and apologies to her staff and fans for the perceived “misunderstanding” surrounding the events.
Tamar’s video comes amid multiple news sources alleging that the 23-year-old Baddies star physically assaulted James during a stop on Tamar’s Love and War Anniversary Tour. The news first broke on Friday, November 10.
Angered at not being able to perform music during Tamar’s concert, Chrisean arrived at the venue under the influence, according to news reports and Le Troy Davis, a member of Tamar’s team. Chrisean then allegedly got into an argument with James and hit the background singer in the face. James reportedly received medical attention for his injuries.
Known not to back down from controversy, Chrisean took to Instagram Live to defend herself after the news broke. She called the accusations “false narratives” for “clout chasing” and said that she “needs to start protecting her name.”
Following Chrisean’s rebuttal, James reportedly dropped multiple videos on social media confirming the fight. But no one heard from Tamar until today.
Tamar posted a message on X/Twitter confirming James’ dental visit and medical attention.

And also took to Instagram. “My team has been traumatized, especially James. He was assaulted, he was hurt,” Tamar says.
While the “All the Way Home” singer confirms she invited her “Baltimore sister” to her tour and to a “twerk contest” on stage, she denies telling Chrisean that she could perform. Tamar describes Chrisean as “like a little sister to all of us” and says she invited her just like she did with others without expectations. Her aim in the tour is to have “a good time” and give people the opportunity for “second chances.”
Tamar continues to apologize to her team and her fans for the altercation. “I wish she would have hit me instead of you,” Tamar tears up referring to James.
She ends the video with a message to Chrisean. “And I’m also sorry Chrisean that you feel like in your life that everybody is out to get you. That must be a horrible feeling.”
Chrisean Rock has reportedly since deleted all her social media accounts.

Jordyn Woods and Karl-Anthony Towns are stronger than ever! The 26 year old model recently opened up to PEOPLE about her relationship with the NBA player, and it’s definitely giving relationship goals.
While attending Femme It Forward’s 2nd Annual Give Her FlowHERS Gala, Woods exclusively chatted with the online publication about her love for the Minnesota Timberwolves player, stating that “friendship and trust” are the two things that have kept their three-year relationship going strong. She also explained that the two were “really good friends” first before they started dating and that “COVID gave them the free time to really get to know each other.”
She also added that the duo has “seen each other at all different ways, times, phases” which has led them to have “a very strong foundation.”
In addition to friendship and trust, the socialite cited that “quality time” and “gift giving” are also things that help keep their relationship strong. She explained that the duo “goes large for each other” every holiday and that when it’s time to show appreciation for each other, the two will go all out.

To accent her incredible look, Woods wore a high ponytail braid that fell down her back. She accessorized the style with black square sunglasses, and a soft glam beat face before completing the look with a silver necklace, small silver hoop earrings, rings, and bracelets and a trendy small gold purse to match.
Towns matched his girlfriend’s fly and wore a denim set with a jacket and loose-fitting jeans. He completed his look with a fresh white t-shirt and crisp white sneakers while rocking sunglasses and blinged-out jewelry similar to Woods’.
