Issues of importance to African Americans and Latinos were front and center at the 2016 Iowa Brown & Black Democratic Presidential Forum, which took place on the campus of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on Jan. 11 at 8 p.m. The event was broadcast by The Root’s sister network, Fusion TV, with questions from a panel consisting of Fusion anchors Jorge Ramos and Alicia Menendez, joined by Fusion contributor and comedian Akilah Hughes and New York magazine Writer at Large Rembert Browne.

The forum was not a debate. Each candidate had a dedicated period of time to answer questions from the panel. All three Democratic contenders—Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley—were participating.
