WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — The mother of a man in a wheelchair who was fatally shot by police has been charged with assaulting a woman she thought made a 911 call about her son, according to court documents.

Phyllis McDole, 48, allegedly assaulted the woman, who police say was the not the 911 caller, on Friday night, shortly after officials released an excerpt of the 911 recording. In the 911 call, a frantic woman reports that a man has shot himself and warns bystanders to stay away because he was still armed with a gun.

Wilmington police have said officers fatally shot Jeremy McDole, 28, last Wednesday after he ignored repeated commands to drop his weapon and reached toward his waist.

Authorities said Phyllis McDole turned herself in Monday on charges of assault, terroristic threatening, burglary and conspiracy. She was released on $10,000 bond.

Last week, McDole interrupted a news conference by city officials about the shooting, saying her son was not armed and that the shooting was unjust.

Police said the assault victim had two black eyes, a cut lip and scratches after McDole and five other people went to her home and beat her.

“You got my son shot and you gonna die like my son did,” McDole, who has three prior assault convictions, told the victim, according to court records.
