As Charlotte Observer reporter Jonathan Jones notes, this is not the official NFL MVP award, but is still a very notable and prestigious recognition. Last year’s Pro Football Writers Association MVP was Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who would go on to also receive the NFL MVP designation.

In the eyes of many people, including Jones, Newton winning NFL’s MVP title is all but a foregone conclusion. That announcement will be made the night before the Super Bowl. Newton threw for 35 touchdowns and almost four thousand yards and ran for 10 touchdowns and more than 600 yards. The 26-year-old is the only player in NFL history to have a season with over 30 passing and at least 10 rushing touchdowns.

His dominance helped lead the Panthers to a 15-1 regular season record and an NFC Championship appearance. Carolina is just two wins away from a Super Bowl title.

A fantastic year for Cam Newton just got even better.
