Here are 10 things you should know about #NABJ15: 1. It’s not just for journalists. The 40th Annual National Association of Black Journalists (National Association of Black Journalists) Convention and Career Fair will be held August 5th through August 9th in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Here are 10 things you should know about #NABJ15:

1. It’s not just for journalists. In attendance are media executives, public relations professionals, and students (the student program starts earlier).

Folks will network, get professional development, and celebrate excellence in journalism.

2. There are lots of non-black folk there as participants, recruiters, panelists, and vendors.

3. When folks ask about a “white journalism convention”, I tell them that is what the majority of journalism conventions are.

4. NABJ was formed in 1975 by 44 journalists, the first convention was in Washington, D.C.. The late Max Robinson was one of the founders.

5. There is an app for the convention schedule under “guidebooks” both in the android and ios platforms.

6. NABJ has more than 3,000 members and more than one-third, 1,000, are expected to be in attendance at #NABJ15.

7. There is lots of swag in the exhibit hall at the conference. Also film and music. Mint Condition is on tap this year.

8. There are always surprise appearances at the convention. Prince?

9. One of the founding goals: “to support and uplift one another, mentor and develop future generations and ensure newsrooms across America uncover and tell stories about Black America”.

10. #NABJ16 returns to Washington D.C.
