COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Officials say a Maryland college student won’t return to campus this semester after an email he sent filled with racist and sexist language was made public. University of Maryland College Park officials announced Wednesday that the decision was made by “mutual consent” with the student, who sent the email to fraternity brothers in January 2014. The school’s investigation is continuing. University of Maryland College Park officials announced Wednesday that the decision was made by “mutual consent” with the student, who sent the email to fraternity brothers in January 2014. The school’s investigation is continuing.

In the email, the author tells the six recipients to ban certain ethnic groups from the fraternity’s parties using racial slurs and sexually aggressive language. At one point in the email, the author also denounces consent for sexual activity.

Kappa Sigma fraternity has acknowledged that the student was an undergraduate and member of the University of Maryland chapter when he sent the email. The fraternity says it suspended the student.
