According to ABC 8News, the Grammy award-winning artist attended a two-day event, which started on Sunday, at the historic church where the racist terrorist attack ;by Dylann Roof took place in June. On Sunday Williams had a musical performance ;at the church, and he attended a town hall meeting on Monday where he engaged in a discussion about the racial divide in South Carolina.

A 12-year-old girl at the town hall event told Williams that her classmates at her predominantly white school bully her with racist taunts.

“You’re beautiful and you’re black,” Williams said to the young girl after her confession. “But before you’re black, you’re beautiful. Because you have life and you have a soul. You’re beautiful.” ;

His performance at the church is part of the ;A&E program ;called, “Shining a Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America,” which airs on Nov. 2o. ;
