Nancy Gordeuk, who is the founder of private high school TNT Academy, went off on students who were leaving the event early. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she had accidentally dismissed the crowd before the class’s valedictorian could speak.
“You people are being so rude to not listen to this speech,” said Gordeuk, who is white. “It was my fault that we missed it in the program. Look who’s leaving! All the black people!”
The crowd immediately erupted in anger, and after a video of her comments was posted to social media, many suggested that she be fired.
She has since apologized for her remarks.
“I deeply apologize for my actions made in the emotional state of trying to let this last student finish his speech,” she told MyFoxAtlanta.com.
She later explained to NBC News that “when I looked up all I saw was black families leaving, and thus the comment.”
Gordeuk did not immediately respond to The Huffington Post’s request for comment.
