A brawl among a group of Georgia teens left an 18-year-old dead and nine people arrested on murder charges.
A fight that began between two teenage girls quickly spiraled into an all-out brawl as several young men wielding bats and pipes began attacking each other. Demajhay Bell, 18, who was believed to have been an inactive participant in the fight, was stabbed in the neck shortly after he stepped out of a house near the altercation, the Augusta Chronicle reports.
Demetrius Harris Jr., 21, has been charged in the stabbing.
“He was friends with the person who stabbed him,” Richmond County, Ga., Sheriff Richard told the Chronicle.
According to reports, the beef began at Glenn Hills High School between two teens and continued with others taking sides. Eventually some 30 to 50 people showed up at Eyvette Byrd’s home wielding bats and knives, looking to fight her 15-year-old daughter. Byrd and her son Demetrius Harris Jr., whose arm was broken after being hit with a metal bat, were both arrested and charged in Bell’s death. Byrd and her son were not the only family members arrested and charged; police also arrested Quiauna Henley, 35, and her daughter Quiasha Henley, 18.
Video of the incident shows the driver of a Dodge Charger trying to run over several teens. At one point the driver drives onto a lawn, narrowly missing two teens, and then backs into a car and drives off, almost hitting bystanders, the Chronicle reports.
“That’s why we’re taking an aggressive stance and charging everyone with murder,” Roundtree told the Chronicle. “Anytime you have a mother driving her child to something like this, you have a problem.”
Police also arrested A’Lexis Cain, 18; Tyteanna Thomas, 18; Raheem Jobes; Myah Dunbar, 18; and Terry Lee Daniels, 19. A warrant has been issued for Eddie Doneal Carter III, 18.
