Gary Logan, an assistant principal at Woodrow Elementary in Conway, Arkansas, knows how to shake off the Monday (and every other day) blues — by groovin’ and shakin’. Every morning, Logan greets students as they’re dropped off for school by singing and dancing, KARK reported, and has both the kids and their families feeling energized to tackle the day.
“It just lifts everybody’s spirits,” Kristine Spears, a parent of a Woodrow Elementary student, told the news outlet. “I mean when I get into my morning routine, I laugh a little bit because of what I’ve seen in the morning.”
Logan keeps his routine fresh with a different tune or dance routine each morning, keeping up to date with the current top hits.
“They love that Whip and Nae Nae,” Logan told KARK. “They want me to play it everyday. They want to dance everyday.”
The assistant principal joins the respectable ranks of other musical school administrators, like Matt Glendinning — head of school at Moses Brown in Providence, Rhode Island. In January, Glendinning announced a snow day to the student body with a special rendition of “Let It Go” from “Frozen.” And in August, to welcome staff back after summer vacation, a flash mob of teachers in the West Des Moines, Iowa, school district performed a parody of “One Day More” ;from “Les Misérables.”
Teachers and administrators like this make it, truly, cool to be in school.
“We try to make them smile and make them laugh,” Logan told KARK. “I don’t do bad days. Every day is a good day.”
