Henson appeared on “Ellen” and told the host just how she felt when Viola Davis became the first woman of color to win ;an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. ;

“So when I went into it and I knew I was being nominated alongside of Viola, I just thought to myself, ‘God, just please give it to one of us, so we will never have to say that again.’ You know? Let’s just break this barrier down and keep on pushing.” ;
As the audience burst into applause, Henson continued with her gracious speech. ;”I feel like the universe needed to hear that message last night. Had I won, it wouldn’t have been that message. I mean it would’ve been good, it would’ve been great! But I just think the universe orders up what it needs when it needs it. And I think the world needed to hear what she had to say last night.” ;
Even though it’s too early to call it, we’re pretty damn sure Henson will be back at the Emmys next year for her fan-favorite role as Cookie on “Empire.” Henson returns to TV ;on Wednesday, Sept. 23 for Season 2 of the hit show at 9 p.m. on Fox.
