Florida International University tight end Jonnu Smith’s football season has ended early when his pregnant girlfriend poured boiling water all over him.

It all started when Smith and Mary Gaspar, who was five months pregnant, argued over how much attention he was giving her, says the Miami Herald. According to Gaspar’s official statement to the FIU police, she was “feeling extremely emotional and stressed” when she began to boil the pot of water.

Overwhelmed with emotion, she then poured the hot water on Smith and began to hit him after she felt that he didn’t react strongly enough to being burned. Smith suffered severe burns on his head, neck, back, a shoulder and an arm, but it’s unknown the extent of those burns, the newspaper wrote.

Smith has been seen back on campus, while Gaspar was charged with aggravated battery, but was later released.

Just messy.

It’s been predicted that in the 2017 NFL Draft, Smith has a chance of being a late round pick or undrafted free agent.
