If we’ve learned anything from the latest iteration in ongoing beef between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion, it should be that silence is sometimes golden. Don’t worry, we’ll explain.
Last week, folks online were in an uproar when Megan’s ex-best friend Kelsey Harris — who spoke out against Megan during the Tory Lanez trial back in 2021— posted a promotional pic of Nicki’s latest collab with the LØCI shoe line. They alleged that Kelsey was teaming up the “Chun-Li” rapper while fully knowing that her and Megan aren’t on good terms to further stoke the embers of their beef.
As Kelsey’s photos began to go viral, she hit back at folks on the internet and their claims. But the situation grew into even more of an issue when Nicki decided to take to X/Twitter earlier this week and explain that Kelsey’s photoshoot was in no way shape or form officially connected with her in a since-deleted tweet.
“My nor my company knew anything about it until she posted it…Kelsey def went all the way out with this professional looking backdrop tho…but she is in no way professionally connected to my sneaker,” she wrote as captured by Complex before later blaming social media blogs for posting “planned stories and narratives.”
While there’s inherently nothing wrong with debunking lies, the one person who has been noticeably silent throughout this entire ordeal is Megan herself. When Kelsey’s photos dropped, Megan was silent. When Nicki came back around on social media, Megan was silent and that got us thinking.
Thinking about what, you ask? Well reader, this entire situation made us wonder about the fact that sometimes silence really is the best option in some situations…especially when it comes to a thing that you know good and well needs to not be a thing. Sometimes not paying it any mind entirely is the quickest way to both ensure peace and ensure that the situation doesn’t have more staying power than it should.
That notion can also be seen in the latest celebrity breakup between Halle Bailey and DDG. The latter shared the news of their dissolution on Instagram at the top of October, but has since done a handful of interviews talking about his relationship and making negative headlines. Meanwhile, Halle hasn’t said a word and only recently got on X/Twitter to share she was working on new music.
And why should she? Let the break up be the break up, let DDG say whatever he wants to say until it falls out of the news cycle and then move on in peace. There’s really no point in continuing to feed something you know will only bring more chaos when the alternative is to easily starve it until it no longer has the chance to exist.
We all could learn a thing or two from this approach, here’s hoping more celebs opt to go this route moving forward.
