A Mississippi woman who was accused of conspiring to join the Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, is expected to appear in federal court Tuesday and change her plea in at least one count against her, the Jackson, Miss., Clarion-Ledger reports.
Jaelyn Delshaun Young is expected to plead guilty to the charge of “conspiring to provide material support or resources to ISIS” after pleading not guilty back in December.
Young, 20, was arrested in August along with her fiance, 23-year-old Muhammad Dakhlalla, after being caught allegedly trying to travel to Syria to join the notorious terrorist group. Both had originally pleaded not guilty to the conspiracy charge, but Dakhlalla later changed his plea to guilty on that count earlier this month, the Clarion-Ledger notes.
The couple are both former students at Mississippi State University.
Young, according to reports, not only wanted to join the terrorist group but even praised the actions of Chattanooga, Tenn., shooter Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, who killed five American servicemen.
“What makes me feel bette[r] after just watching the news is that an akhi [brother] carried out an attack against US marines in TN! Alhamdulillah [Thanks be to God], the numbers of supporters are growing,” she allegedly told an undercover agent in an online conversation one day after the shooting.
Both Young and her fiance were denied bond after their apprehension in August.
