Lupita Nyong’o is the latest star to speak out about the stunning lack of diversity at this year’s Oscars.

In a thoughtful Instagram post, the actress — an Academy Award winner herself — addressed the issue and expressed her disappointment.

“I am disappointed by the lack of inclusion in this year’s Academy Award nominations,” she wrote. “It has me thinking about unconscious prejudice and what merits prestige in our culture.”

The star continued by adding that she stands with her fellow peers, such as Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith, who have already come forward to call for change.

Along with her statement, Nyong’o added an equally thoughtful quote as her caption.

“‘Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.’ – James Baldwin #manystoriesmanyvoices,” she wrote.

To date, there has been plenty of backlash from members of Hollywood surrounding the lack of diversity at this year’s Oscars (#OscarsSoWhite).

As mentioned above, both Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith have taken action by deciding not to attend or watch the show, with director Michael Moore joining them.

David Oyelowo, who was notably snubbed last year for his role as Martin Luther King Jr. in “Selma,” slammed the Academy for its lack of inclusion during a gala honoring Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs.

“The Academy has a problem. It’s a problem that needs to be solved,” he said. “For 20 opportunities to celebrate actors of color, actresses of color, to be missed last year is one thing; for that to happen again this year is unforgivable.”
