Larry Wilmore hasn’t shied away from sharing his longstanding distaste for Bill Cosby. The late night host blasted Cosby on “The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore” on several occasions in the last year, at one point stating that the comedy legend is guilty of the sexual allegations against him.
On Monday, Wilmore didn’t hold back in his first episode of 2016, recapping a few gifts that he received over the holiday season including a framed mugshot from Cosby’s recent arrest.
“Yes! We didn’t forget about you motherf**ker and neither did the justice system! BAM!” Wilmore said after opening the gift wrapped photo on the air. “Bill Cosby might finally pay some legal consequences for preying on women.”
Cosby was released on $1 million bail after his December 30 arrest for a January 2004 sexual assault case in Pennsylvania. As he awaits his forthcoming January 14 court date for a preliminary hearing, some experts are skeptical that he will be convicted due to the lack of physical evidence.
Despite the outcome of the case, Wilmore says Cosby’s arrest is a positive thing for all of his accusers.
“Even if he doesn’t get convicted this is still a good thing, because for too long the women who have accused him of this crime were not being listened to,” he said. “They were being silenced by a powerful man and a complacent culture. And now finally, regardless of what happens next, they’re being heard – and that’s a start.”
