A Los Angles attorney who wore a Ku Klux Klan hood adorned with a swastika to a meeting at Los Angeles City Hall was arrested Wednesday after authorities say he called the Los Angeles Council president a racial slur and drew a picture of him hanging from a tree.

“A cross that’s burning, an individual in a KKK hood. He calls me the n-word and has a photo of me hanging from a tree,” Herb Wesson, the first African American to hold the position of council president, told ABC 7.

Attorney Wayne Spindler, 46, was arrested after he allegedly drew images on a comment card of a man hanging from tree, a cross burning and a KKK hood holding a noose and sign that read “Herb = [n–ger],” according to Raw Story.

Spindler, who addressed the council wearing a KKK hood, told ABC 7 that it was all a misunderstanding.

“The cross burning is the city burning down from corruption, the hood is City Hall coming after us for our money and the tree is me and everybody getting lynched as taxpayers,” Spindler told the news station.

This isn’t the first time Spindler has caused controversy. Local officials told the news station that they have been dealing with Spindler’s antics for years.

“This is the kind of verbiage we get on a routine basis as L.A. City Council, and one of the characters finally put it in writing so now we have proof that this is the kind of abuse that residents, constituents, and council members and staff take on a regular basis,” Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson said.
