NBA star Kobe Bryant is taking the blame for a miscarriage his wife Vanessa endured during the height of the rape allegations the shooting guard faced beginning in 2003.

Bryant’s admission is revealed in a new Showtime documentary about the superstar, titled “Kobe Bryant’s Muse,” which aired Saturday on the network.

“The reality is that it happened because of me,” Bryant said. “That’s the reality of it. And that’s something I have to deal with, something I got to carry forever.”

During a segment in the documentary titled “2004,” which was posted online by TMZ Sports, the Los Angeles Laker said that he “failed miserably” at taking care of his family during that time. Without directly acknowledging the case, in which a Colorado woman accused Bryant of rape, Bryant revealed the true extent of the toll the allegations took on his family.

“We were expecting,” Bryant said, pausing for a brief moment. “Expecting our second child during that time and there was just so much stress. She actually, she — we actually miscarried.”

“I have a real hard time dealing with that ’cause I felt like it was just my fault,” a visibly emotional Bryant said while fighting back tears.

A judge dismissed the sexual assault charge against Bryant in 2004, and the case did not go to trial after the woman who accused the basketball player of sexual assault in 2003 said she would not testify. Bryant at the time did acknowledge that he had sex with the woman, but argued that it was consensual.
