There are more black men under correctional control today then were under slavery in 1850. We are with you, we see you, we love you and march on,” he concluded.
“Glory” was the frontrunner, after Legend and Common took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song. “Knowing what we’re singing about is inspiring people as they march today in this present time, and knowing millions of people will watch the Oscars is such a huge honor,” Legend told HuffPost Entertainment in a recent interview. “It could not be a better combination of circumstances for us.”
It was a huge win for “Selma,” which made waves when its director Ava DuVernay was snubbed for a Best Director nod. The film was also nominated for Best Picture.
