After Duke suffered an embarrassing loss to Oregon, 82-68, Thursday evening, star Blue Devils player Grayson Allen refused to shake hands with Oregon’s Dillon Brooks, and it appears that Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski lectured him about a last-second shot once the game was over.
Brooks, a sophomore guard, had 22 points, six assists and five rebounds, but a last-second three-pointer with the game well in hand for his team didn’t sit well with Duke. With the shot clock winding down and about 10 seconds to go in the game, Brooks launched a 35-foot three-pointer that went in. Moments later, with the game decided, Allen bypassed Brooks’ outstretched hand, and Coach K reportedly gave the guard an earful, the New York Daily News reports.
“[He said] I’m too good of a player to be showing off at the end,” Brooks told Sports Illustrated.
Coach Krzyzewski claims that he didn’t say anything of the sort.
“I just congratulated him,” Krzyzewski said, adding that Brooks is “a terrific player.”
Krzyzewski added, after reporters pressed the issue, that Brooks might be lying.
“I didn’t say that,” Krzyzewski said sternly. “You can say whatever you want. Dillon Brooks is a hell of a player. I said, ‘You’re a terrific player.’ And you can take whatever he said and then go with it, all right?”
The Daily News points out that a Vine of the exchange appears to contradict Krzyzewski’s take as if his only exchange with Brooks was complimentary then why does it appear as if Brooks is saying, “I’m sorry coach, my bad.”
