Video has surfaced on YouTube that appears to show a police officer in Charleston, South Carolina, telling a group of children “don’t go to church and get hurt.” The video comes in the wake of a shooting last week at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston that killed nine people. The shooting was at least the 91st violent attack on a black church since 1956. In the profanity-laden video, a group of children is heard yelling obscenities at the officer as he drives by and then stops. It’s unclear why they are yelling. The officer then appears to tell the children “don’t go to church and get hurt,” before driving away. Live5News.com | Charleston, SC | News, Weather, Sports Witnesses …

Witnesses told local TV station WCSC the incident took place on Monday in the Ardmore subdivision in West Ashley, a section of Charleston.

The video was posted by a police accountability group and a media organization, neither of which could be immediately reached for comment.

The Charleston Police Department did not immediately return a request for comment from The Huffington Post. But in a statement sent to The Post and Courier, the department said it is “looking into” the incident.

“The Charleston Police Department is aware of the video and we are looking into this matter,” spokesman Charles Francis told the newspaper. “We will continue to demonstrate through both words and actions that we are here to provide safety, security and comfort to the families, church and community.”
