On Thursday, the international pop star posted the powerful cover of this week’s issue of Time magazine to her Instagram account , urging her 31.1 million followers to support the NAACP’s efforts to assist those impacted by this week’s events.

Protests began early in the week in reaction to the death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray from an injury he sustained during an arrest. Rioting in some areas resulted in looting and damage to the community.
The singer has used her voice to draw attention to the deaths of unarmed black men by police. In 2013, Knowles and husband, Jay Z, joined Al Sharpton in challenging Stand Your Ground laws at a Trayvon Martin rally in New York City. The Grammy winner held a moment of silence at during her concert on the night George Zimmerman was acquitted in the shooting death of the 17-year-old Florida teenager.
